The Troi Activator Plug-in can trigger scripts on a different computer, even via Internet!
It has built-in security to prevent unauthorized triggering. You can send a message text and/or a number (e.g. a record ID) with the trigger. It is also possible to trigger a script on a specified date and time, validate fields on exiting a field and put the computer to sleep!
